The Walk
Specs: The Walk, light installation, 2.5-meter diameter sphere comprising 5000 pixels with a total of 35,000 LED’s. The sphere is both, an object and a spherical screen showing a 7.5 minute long video loop.
The intense, red glow of the light reveals a captivating variety of colours and movements. The spherical shape and the constant shifting of light and colour give the impression of a rotating planet. Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy — in particular the journey from Inferno to Paradise — an illusory narrative unfolds that evokes a sense of catharsis. The installation depicts the transition between darkness and light, with flames and figures carrying torches appearing as an endless procession in search of meaning and happiness.
The Walk invites the viewer to step into the circular movement, in which light and dark constantly alternate. As one moves around the work, not only does the visible image change, but so too does the experience of the space itself. The visitor thus becomes part of the ongoing journey in search of light.

De intense, rode gloed van het licht onthult een boeiende verscheidenheid aan kleuren en bewegingen. De bolvorm en de voortdurende verandering van licht en kleur geven de indruk van een roterende planeet. Geïnspireerd door Dante’s Goddelijke Komedie, met name de reis van Inferno naar Paradijs, ontvouwt zich een illusoir verhaal dat een gevoel van catharsis oproept. Het beeld toont de overgang tussen duisternis en licht, waarbij vlammen en figuren met fakkels verschijnen als een eindeloze optocht op zoek naar zingeving en geluk.
The Walk nodigt de toeschouwer uit om binnen te treden in de cirkelvormige beweging, waarin licht en donker elkaar voortdurend afwisselen. Door om het werk heen te bewegen, verandert niet alleen het zichtbare beeld, maar ook de ervaring van de ruimte zelf. De bezoeker wordt zo deel van de voortdurende reis op zoek naar licht.
